2024年からの1年間のWild Conversation ミュージックテニスセッションを集めたアルバムをリリースします。

ゲストアーティストとして「片想い」や「Pome Shih Tzu」などでの活動で知られるMC.sirafuがスティールパンで参加。またマリンバ奏者の野木青依や、作曲家の西井夕紀子がピアノで参加。

テニスコートに見立てた四角い空間とネットを設定し、その周辺にセンサースピーカーを10台設置。テニスのラリーを続けるとそれぞれ人感センサースピーカーにより再生される、さまざまなサウンドエフェクトやメロディの断片が、即興的に音楽を構成していく。

そのテニスラリーにより出来た即興的な音楽に反応し、ゲストミュージシャンが即興演奏を行うことで、運動と演奏という二つの身体表現からなる新しい音楽・作曲方法・上演を表現する。

収録曲は屋内外問わず、公共空間でのイベント(#7)から高速道路の高架下(#5)、さらには本物のテニスコート(#1,#5)も含め、さまざまな場所でセッションを行なっている。各セッションの環境・サーフェイスは以下の通り。またSession7~11は有楽町YAU CENTERで開催された林の展覧会「Wild Conversation~Music Tennis~ / YAU OPEN」でのセッションを収録。

"Wild Conversation Music Tennis" is a project by musician Syotaro Hayashi.

This album is a collection of Music Tennis sessions held over the course of one year, starting in 2024.

Guest artists include MC.sirafu, known for his work with Kataomoi and Pome Shih Tzu, performing on steelpan; marimba player Aoi Nogi; and composer Yukiko Nishii on piano.

A square space, designed to resemble a tennis court, is set with a net and surrounded by ten sensor-equipped speakers.

As a tennis rally continues, each motion sensor triggers the playback of various sound effects and fragments of melody, which together form an improvised musical composition.

Responding to this spontaneously created music, guest musicians perform live improvisations, creating a new form of music, composition, and performance that emerges from two modes of physical expression—athletic movement and musical performance.

The recorded tracks feature sessions held in a variety of locations, both indoors and outdoors—from events in public spaces, to beneath a highway overpass, and even on an actual tennis court.

The environments and surfaces for each session are as follows.

Sessions 7–11 were recorded during Hayashi’s exhibition “Wild Conversation Music Tennis / YAU OPEN” at YAU CENTER in Yurakucho.
